M.Kula : It’s time to act as Malaysian Indians have spoken!
Here’s what DAP Ipoh Barat MP M.Kulasegaran gotta say:
On Nov 25 2007 over 30,000 Indians from across the country arrived in Kuala Lumpur to protest the community’s marginalization. They braved police roadblocks, courts orders and arrest to speak in one voice and send a message - a message that was heard not only in Malaysia but across the world. Last week Malaysian Indians spoke again - by boycotting Thaipusam at Batu Caves. Where over a million people usually gathered less then 300,000 went and many of them were Indians who had to go because they had taken vows and wanted to fulfill it. They feared to offend Lord Muruga and so they went with a heavy heart. Twice the Malaysian Indians have spoken up and they will speak again for the third and final time - when they vote for the opposition in the 12th general election which is anytime soon.
They are ready to teach Samy Vellu, the MIC and the BN government a lesson they will not forget. They will vote opposition. They are ready to change their future. They have spoken once to often and its time to act, it is time to for Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi, who in an interview with CNN in Davos said that after the HINDRAF rally on 25th November 2007, said the government was “discussing” with to Indian NGOs has not however taken any concrete steps to resolve outstanding issues of poverty, low wages and of educational and business opportunities that Indians face.
In December he had a meeting with Indian NGO’s including Samy (who was taking down notes) and Nadarajah the Head of Batu Caves temple. I issued Continue reading the rest of this entry »
ShareMalaysian Hindu Students ‘forced’ to shave their facial hair!
Well, after reading this article as well as the different version(s) of the article in other blogs, I decided to give my very own point-of-views pertaining to it. First and foremost, welcome to Malaysia everyone, Truly Asia. Gone are the days when Malaysia could proudly uplift its so-called ‘racial understandings’ or ‘racial unity’ amongst its rakyat. Nowadays, certain barbaric Malaysian teachers have started to show off their talent in torching some racial issues in schools despite knowing the consequences they are about to face. For instance, a few weeks back, there was the ‘songkok made compulsory‘ issue in which all the prefects in that particular school (Johor) were to wear ’songkok’ as part of their school uniform and the best part is, it is compulsory! And now, comes another racial-inclined issue! What the hell is going on with these people?
As mentioned in the article, six Hindu boys were forced to shave their beard and moustache. The students were growing it as part of a ritual for the Thaipusam festival. School rules is at one side and religion rules is at one side. Even though both might overlap each other, but both of the rules should be balanced, in order to avoid any clashes from occurring. In this case, most of the schools do not allow their students to grow their moustache and/or beard but when it comes to religion, especially when the students have their solid reason for keeping them, then the school authorities should understand this and if they really do respect one’s religion, they should have given the green light!
Some of my friends went to National Service training a few years back and most of them tend to lie to the trainers, saying that they must keep their hair / moustache / beard long as they had been “praying” and been involved in some sort of “rituals” in which they have to keep their facial hairs. Most of their statements were directed to deaf ears, while only some of them were granted and had been asked to come up with a letter signed by some higher authorities for their ’special privilege’ to be enforced. These kind of lies had given a bad impression to other races in such a way that they would think Indians would use whatever racial-related-excuses to escape themselves from certain situations.
Then what would happen to those real devotees? For sure the same impression would be poured out to these devotees!

“Makkal Sakthi” DAP Ceramah at Penang - Coverage
Too bad, I could not attend the Makkal Sakthi DAP ceramah at Penang yesterday and today, I was looking around for anyone to post the coverage about it. Luckily, Mr. Anil Netto from Aliran had taken the initiative to do a detailed post pertaining to the event. A big thanks to Mr. Anil! Here’s what he gotta say:
“Makkal Sakthi (People Power)!” thundered speaker after speaker.
“Valga (Long live)!” roared back the crowd.
I thought I would check out the atmosphere at the DAP ceramah at the Penang Chinese Town Hall in George Town tonight to gauge the mood among voters. The theme: “Bebaskan Hindraf 5 (Free the Hindraf Five).”
When I arrived at the hall at around 8.00pm, it was full. More people were arriving and soon they were spilling out of the hall, where two screens had been put up for those outside to watch the proceedings.
The total turnout was around 3,000, including the few hundred outside the hall.
This was not your typical DAP ceramah. I had covered ceramahs in Penang, including those held at the Chinese Town Hall, for some years - but this was unlike anything I had seen. Instead of an 80 per cent ethnic Chinese crowd, this time Indian Malaysians made up more than 90 per cent of the crowd. Instead of speaking in English and Chinese, the DAP speakers spoke largely in Malay and Tamil and some English.
The Chinese Malaysians who turned up looked bemused and a bit taken aback to find themselve in a minority this time. One Chinese woman, a stranger, turned to me and remarked, “After 50 years of Independence, you have finally woken up” - which sounded a bit strange; she was talking as if I represented the entire Indian Malaysian community in the country!
I was more interested in observing the crowd. Of course Continue reading the rest of this entry »

Muslims banned from consuming “Thaipusam coconuts”
The following article (excerpt) has been translated from Bahasa Malaysia to English by me
“Muslims has been banned from consuming coconuts which have been known to be used by the Hindus for their Thaipusam celebration yesterday. The Mufti of Perak, Datuk Seri Harussani Zakaria said that the illicit law is due to the usage of the coconuts in worshiping Hindu gods, which is defined as “polytheism” and this is certainly against the Islamic faith. Furthermore, he added that Muslims who knew that the coconuts had been used for worshiping purposes should prohibit themselves from using it either in cooking or for some other purposes.”

“Consuming Thaipusam coconuts” had become “haram” all of a sudden?
