Muslims banned from consuming “Thaipusam coconuts”

The following article (excerpt) has been translated from Bahasa Malaysia to English by me

“Muslims has been banned from consuming coconuts which have been known to be used by the Hindus for their Thaipusam celebration yesterday. The Mufti of Perak, Datuk Seri Harussani Zakaria said that the illicit law is due to the usage of the coconuts in worshiping Hindu gods, which is defined as “polytheism” and this is certainly against the Islamic faith. Furthermore, he added that Muslims who knew that the coconuts had been used for worshiping purposes should prohibit themselves from using it either in cooking or for some other purposes.”

“Consuming Thaipusam coconuts” had become “haram” all of a sudden?
