M.Kula : It’s time to act as Malaysian Indians have spoken!

Here’s what DAP Ipoh Barat MP M.Kulasegaran gotta say:

On Nov 25 2007 over 30,000 Indians from across the country arrived in Kuala Lumpur to protest the community’s marginalization. They braved police roadblocks, courts orders and arrest to speak in one voice and send a message - a message that was heard not only in Malaysia but across the world. Last week Malaysian Indians spoke again - by boycotting Thaipusam at Batu Caves. Where over a million people usually gathered less then 300,000 went and many of them were Indians who had to go because they had taken vows and wanted to fulfill it. They feared to offend Lord Muruga and so they went with a heavy heart. Twice the Malaysian Indians have spoken up and they will speak again for the third and final time - when they vote for the opposition in the 12th general election which is anytime soon.

They are ready to teach Samy Vellu, the MIC and the BN government a lesson they will not forget. They will vote opposition. They are ready to change their future. They have spoken once to often and its time to act, it is time to for Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi, who in an interview with CNN in Davos said that after the HINDRAF rally on 25th November 2007, said the government was “discussing” with to Indian NGOs has not however taken any concrete steps to resolve outstanding issues of poverty, low wages and of educational and business opportunities that Indians face.

In December he had a meeting with Indian NGO’s including Samy (who was taking down notes) and Nadarajah the Head of Batu Caves temple. I issued a statement asking the matters discussed to be made public and what follow up action the government has? To date there has been no response. But the minimum the PM should have done is to speed out some concrete plans to alleviate the economic and social problems facing the Indian community. None has been forth coming and frankly nothing will. The PM has said many times that he is ever willing to hear the grouses of the communities. The PM is talking but not implementing anything fruit full.

Why CSMU medical degree is still unrecognized?

It was also reported that he met the Ukraine President and discussed sending Malaysian students to Ukraine Universities. Isn’t the PM aware that the Crima State Medical University (CSMU) has over 1,200 students studying medicine? CSMU medical degree has been derecognized for all intakes as from January2006. We brought up the issue on 21st June 2006 and what we got from Nazri was that the government has decided to derecognized the medical degree. CSMU is favorite for the low income parents to send their children to study at Crimea .
What has MIC done to date to ask its partner UMNO to recognize the medical degree?

Thaipusam

Last year over a million Indians made it on Thaipusam day to Batu Caves . without fail the crowd has been on the increase year after year. But this year hardly 400,000 went although Samy said over 1 million attended. This is despite the declaration of public holiday on Thaipusam day. I got a SMS which reads “ pak lah we indians dont need public holidays but create job opportunities” This sms speaks volumes. Further Samy says the sms calling for a boycott did not work. He is out of his mind a pretends to be oblivious to the sufferings of the Indians in this country. The BN and in particular the MIC has lost substantial support from the Indian community. proof of this is the Meredaka Center public opinion servey which shows Abdullah;s popularity among Indians has plinged from 80% to just 40%.

Establish a Royal Commission to ascertain the real social cultural and religious problems of the Indian community

The Indian community grouses have to be addressed. The high rate of crime, unemployment, lack of employment opportunities both at the government and in the private sector, highest single mothers and suicide rate. The vigorous demolition of temples have slowed down of late. But we all know its because of the impending general elections. What is going to happen after elections?
