PAS youth to pressure KDN to renew Makkal Osai permit

KUALA LUMPUR, MON: The PAS national Youth movement today demanded the Home Ministry (KDN) to reconsider its decision not to renew the publication license for Tamil newspaper, Makkal Osai.

PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub said the KDN should consider the fate of the 102 employees of the company if the decision was to be maintained, besides showing proof and concrete evidence on the mistakes committed by the newspapers.

He said this after leading a PAS Youth delegation on a visit to the Makkal Osai office and a dialogue with the newspaper’s management at the Kompleks Batu, Jalan Ipoh, here. Also present was Makkal osai News Editor, B.R. Rajan.

On Thursday, Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said that the government had decided not to renew the publication license of Makkal Osai after finding that the newspaper had on several occasions breached the media guidelines stipulated.

Rajan said that so far the newspaper had not received any feedback from the ministry after making an appeal on the same day.

Albeit PAS has nothing to do with ‘Makkal Osai’, at least they are coming forward to voice out their concerns pertaining to the permit renewal matter of Makkal Osai. The same has been done by the Angkatan Muda Keadilan Malaysia (AMK), DAP and the Centre for Independent Journalism. Uncle Sam knows very well that his voice is no longer being heard and thus, this is what he gotta say:

“I am sad this has happened. I don’t know why they (the ministry) did this. But the (the daily’s management) can appeal.”

Enough said by Uncle Sam.

Now, why the heck I can’t hear any voices from the IPF, MIUP, ABC or whatever party that claims to be the ‘backbone’ of Malaysian Indians? Hello, we are losing a ‘newspaper catered for the Malaysian Indians’ and what you people, as so-called Malaysian Indians are doing?

We are losing one of our source of press here, and we might keep on losing another one, maybe another newspaper, a radio station or even a TV channel.

Please do whatever seems to be possible to save Makkal Osai from being completely closed down. Put aside all your internal rivalries and go ahead and pressure the Home Ministry and its minister, email him, phone him, send him letters, send him some representatives, start a campaign and etc.

At least do something. 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing!
