The Friendster Freaks – Male Edition
“Your article is stereotyped“. “Your article is skewed more to the girls“. “Guys are the same too!“. These are some of the feedbacks received from fellow commentators in my earlier article “The ‘Friendster’ized Malaysian Indians!” and to date, there are still some disputes going on with one idiot making a baseless accusation saying that “Only Tamils would do like that and not Malayalees, Telugus or other etnics“. Moron!
Allright, back to our topic. Now, as being a male myself, I would now try my level best to describe how the males or to be specific, the Malaysian Indian teenage boys are misusing using “Friendster” as a tool for them to communicate and interact with their e-friends!
Once again, their primary photo(s) come(s) into mind! While we could see some girls uploading images of Asin and/or Trisha and self-proclaiming them to be ‘them’ (huh?), we could also see some teenage boys uploading some rip-off images of Surya, Vijay and even 50 Cent and to be on the safer side, they would rather leave the caption box blank or some might take the initiative to write there “girls…..its me!!” or “my new look….. ok va???“. In addition, there would be an additional picture of any female celebrities with the caption “my savadi sareke….hehehe!”.
I know, it is your account and you have the sole authority to do whatever shit you want but for GOD’s SAKE, please read the BLOODY RULES! Please be matured and grow up, lah!
Surprisingly, out of 10, about 4 boys would be putting their real pictures. And, the posing? It is like they are going for an audition and they would “dress to kill”, with their XXXXXL t-shirts, bling-blings, NY cap, sunglasses and etc (I’m not condemning!). And, the caption? “western rulezzzz…” or “rappers inc….“. These types of guys are those who love to impersonate those westerners and they believe, girls would be attracted to these kind of guys (really?) and hence, their tremendous posing styles. Girls, please confirm this! Ohh and not forgetting, some pictures of their bikes and/or cars with the caption “my baby…“. Friendster’s photo policy never stated anything about uploading pictures of vehicles so for time being, you guys are safe! (And I’m not condemning you guys for this!)
It is kinda rare to see guys having some albums or photos restricted for private viewing as they believe, girls would tend to “think” that this guy “stores some pictures of his GF” and she would not bother to add/interact with the guy. Even if some guys are in a relationship, some won’t even bother to change their status to “In a relationship” because that would lose his opportunity in getting more girls to add/interact with him. I though social networking should be genuine in every manner. Correct me If I’m wrong.

Well, take your mouse cursor and highlight the invisible texts! What I’m trying to say is that some guys suck in designing their profile, in such a way that their texts blend with their background. For instance, having a ‘dark’ background with some pictures of 50 Cent in it and let the font colors to be ‘brown’. How do you expect the viewers to read your profile details? Let alone spicing it up with your badly-broken English! There are even some who thinks that typing like this makes it more interesting and appealing! Does it?
One thing that I respect the guys is that they are VERY DARING! Daring in the sense of giving out comments/testimonials to girls! Friendster was far way better a few years ago when TESTIMONIALS were used to WRITE or COMMENT about a particular person but now, after the introduction of HTML in testimonials (or COMMENTS), people have become so lazy and they tend to copy and paste some ‘imaginary’ comments, another reason why friendster profiles loads very slow nowadays! And, some of the comments are STUPID, usually depicts an image of a ‘cartoon girl/boy’ saying “YOU ARE GORGEOUS” or “HEY SEXY!!!!”. Arghhhhh! And, the most common and annoying image > THANKS FOR THE ADD! Shouldn’t it be THANKS FOR ADDING ME as the former sounds more like a grammatical mistake?
Ohh and I mentioned the word ‘daring’ because some fortunate guys would bravely give out comments to girls once she have added him, such as:

These are some of the examples of retarded comments/testimonials that I have came across but once again, you might say that It’s your account and it is your friend and who am I to comment about it.
Lastly, when it comes to profile details, especially the Affiliations, Occupation and Schools part, these kind of inputs are common:

The merger of this article and the earlier article summarises the truth behind Malaysian Indian Friendster users, specifically teenagers and once again, I’m not in the intention of offending or hurting anyone. I believe there are many people who are not included in the lists above and my utmost respect shall be with you! All the points above are my POINT OF VIEWS and hereby has nothing to do with any particular person, facts or source!

i totally agree that, we Indians ourselves bring embarassment upon each other. We are being called estates, lame and lately, theres been a new nickname for us, we’re also called “lalangs” ! I wouldnt like to comment about the earlier blog on the girls as for the momment.. but regarding the guys… I seriously hope that some of you wannabe’s out there who actually reads this blog.. understand how sickening have you guyz been all the while… (those implied above only).
Ethically speaking, Social Networking is where you make friends and get to know people… Acts of sending Friendster Graphical Comments or adding various media plugin is actually a pain in the arse for low bandwith users.
Lyf would be much easier with fast loading pages.. and get to know people.. oo c’mmon… if at all you guyz would like to ‘buaya’ the gals… piliz la… do it via pvt message la… wif some daring guys doing it on the profile part… yukz… its sickening actually…and an eyesore for those who reads them.
Dont be desperate to be using those ‘charming’ words to gals… for as how they (the gals) have expressed their opinions.. you guys can conclude that you are unlikely gonna get hooked’ up wif dat oldskul trick.

My Mixed Views
1) Ganez is sooo right! Show the positive way of doing things rather pin pointing the faults. Lets fix things.
2) People usually dont like posting their pictures sure have their own reasons, Now days its so easy to manipulate an image, and if there is someone doesnt like you, its easy to spread shameful images thats not real. To Girls, If you are still under your parents care, just becareful on who you let ur pictures to be viewed.
3) For the guys and girls in western style, um this is malaysia after all, if it is india its a different view. In India, instead of bling bling and western fashion, they ask you why dont you wear saree(girls) or vesti (boys). Curious, I rarely see any guys in malaysia wear vesti, isnt that a cultural diversion to the western too?
4) Gosh Malaysia already have race separations, now got splitting the race up into more tiny part? wont that actually break apart our community? Aiya,……… dont make me choose what sub-race i am. Already headache with my culture.
5) Makez wrote to sarah earlier…What you mean different girls have different type of mindset, do you have another article on that? interesting (but if you going to make one, please dont be gender bias. Please let it be on both gender)
6) I cant believe im actually enjoy reading this makkez site blogs, i was kinda hurt at first, but now its just a blog to let out opinions and expression. Yet i still dont like people who uses vulgar words in what they write, its not decent. I wonder they talk like that to their elders? Alright, first off my disclaimer: All things written as based on life experiences and should not be construed as the gospel truth. Again, this is not about disrespecting Tamils and I have to stress this over and over, but about understanding that there is more than one cultural pathway – hence why Indian.

The ethnic story and my WHY.
I am not tamil, let’s put it this way as to not incite any kind of hatred or ill perceived ranting.
Do you know how interestingly annoying it can be for a non-tamil living in Malaysia’s indian society? Where every other indian thinks you must be inherently Tamil? It’s fine if you know the language but if you don’t then it’s a spate of repetitive dialogue you find yourself spouting like there are cue cards swimming all around you – for the rest of your life.
Then there’s the whole issue of culture. Just because you celebrate deepavali (oh look, spelt just how the Tamil’s pronounce it) it does not mean there are NO OTHER festive occasions to shout about. By doing this, Indians in Malaysia have singlehandedly dumbed the rest of the population into knowing of only one stream, or school of thought, in this sense. Who’s to blame? Why not you?
Third, I have yet to meet a Tamil that speaks to non-Indians about the variety that makes up the Indian culture. The Chinese do it so well, Hakka, Cantonese, Mandarin, etc – at least they make this known to all and illustrate diversity of origin at every attempt, sometimes even crossing between languages as they speak about one thing or another – do we?
We are ten times more diverse but…let’s just see what you guys say about this.
Then there’s also the fascination that many Tamils provide you with like, oh you’re Telegu, or Malyalee or etc, and then trail off to: ” So why don’t you speak Tamil again?”
Tamils are the dominant faction within Malaysia’s Indian society…so why does Samy Vellu say: Malay, Chinese & Tamil?
What’s that supposed to mean?
I know a Malyalee girl who knows jack-shit about anything Malyalee, but Tamil yes. So what does this say?
We are a breed complete with so much history, philosophy and experiences. So why are we only branding ONE side when we have so many?
Why do you guys say we are Indian, why call ourselves by any other ethnic disposition, then inform the rest of Malaysia – YES WE ARE ALL TAMIL. Tamil cultures, tamil philosophy, tamil history.
Just because you profess Hinduism/ Christianity or anything else, doesn’t make you Indian. Your culture and your history make you Indian.
That’s the truth.
So tell me dear Indians, do you really know anything more than what you were taught?
Let’s not lose our legacy nor our dignity because some of us are a little short sighted.
