“Makkal Tolaikachi” channel on ASTRO

MakkalTV

The only channel in ASTRO which I found to be quite interesting, irritating and informative at the same time – Makkal Tolaikachi. Interesting because of their FULL USAGE of Tamil throughout all their programmes. Now, that is amazing! Irritating due to some silly faces that would appear in some of their programmes and finally, informative because most of their news and documentaries are straightforward, as they would not even bother to censor some of those OGRISH scenes! Woohooo!

Allright, I admit it. MOST SOME of the time I won’t be understanding what the hell they are talking as their Tamil language is totally different from what I speak at home. Or should I say PURE Tamil. At least those Sun TV and our local hosts are understandable, but not these Makkal TV Tolaikachi dudes. It is like they are emphasizing a 100%-pure-Tamil-usage policy and not a single English word would be coming out from their mouth. At times, whenever I have some free time, I would be concentrating fully on the host and would be eagerly waiting for him/her to accidentally say an English word but to no avail. How sad!

I just thought to myself, how If our ‘local kaigels‘ happened to get a job at Makkal Tolaikachi and how would they perform, let’s say, being a host for a telephone Q&A session?

1. Hello….. Bang, sowkiyama bang….?
2. Hello….. Ungge perru enna LA?
3. Hai…. Yo…Yo…Yo… Yepidi irukingge LA?

For your HELLO and HAI, be prepared to get a smack on your head by those big heads at Makkal Tolaikachi. For your LA, BANG, and YO YO YO, be prepared to get your ass kicked from that place and go and find another job will ya?

How if our “local hot Bangsar chicks” got a job there and how would they talk?

1. ACTUALLY ningge…. SO ningge…. WELL….
2. Yeppidi irukkingGE? (pronounced “GER”)
3. THANK YOU VERY MUCH call panuthekku….

The above are some of the examples on how one can get their ass kicked instantly if they happened to be working as a host at Makkal Tolaikachi. So, how would the correct saying goes?

Makkal Vanakam. Aiya/Amma nalla irukinggila?

Wow, that sounds nice! But, would that kind of language suit the younger audiences, especially our Malaysian Indian adolescent viewers? And, what’s up with some of the male hosts wearing the vesthi when reading the news, which is, something very very rare? Hmmmmm.

And, did you guys noticed that their channel name is not even Makkal TV, but Makkal Tolaikachi? LOL! I do respect them for being very strict as they are doing their level best to instill our Tamil culture in every possible angles, but sometimes, I found that channel to be FUNNY! No offence to all those Makkal TV Tolaikachi fans but this is what I would feel!

As a conclusion, this channel is a mixture of “pure and unbiased information, irritation*, annoyances*, interesting as well as funny”!

*Irritating and annoying. For instance, there would be a programme where as two person would be arguing trivially by singing and dancing and I really feel like smacking those two fellas.

*Not even a single snap or a news about the Tamil film industry and/or its actors and actresses? WTF? LOL!

Scenery 1:

      Makkal(ez) Vanakam,

Dr. S. Ramdoss is the man behind Makkal TV *Tolaikatchi* and all the policies that was enforced in Makkal TV. I am not sure if you ever heard about him. He is a famous politician at Tamil Nadu who starts the campaign where all the tamil films titles must be named in tamil and he also starts war against biggies like Rajni kanth for smoking on the big screen. He also used 2 have good argument and professional debates for a few weeks long in TV news with a “NEW” director if ah ha BF stands for “ah ah best friend” or “ah ah blue film”. I remember his press statement that makkal tv will never telecast any cinema related contents and they will concentrates on TV shows that benefit the people of Tamil Nadu.

Hats off to you for writing an interesting article about Makkal Tolaikachi. Probably the channels importance arent much emphasized here in Malaysia, but certainly i think, it brings a lot of meaning for the people in India. Malaysian Indians cant stand a chance against them for the usage of Tamil language…hehe
but if they want, they can i believe and hoping so…

In Sri Lanka Tamilan sacrified their life for tamil & country for tamil (Tamil Eelam), here we discuss and joke on people who speak in proper Tamil? Shame on you Malaysian Tamils.
