Are you a Tamilan? Are you a Malayalee? Are you a Telugu?
Whenever I came across any Indian asking me these kind of questions, I would really love to answer it in a ‘decent’ way: Would it make any f*cking difference If I happened to be in any of these categories? But, for the sake of ‘being polite’, I would just go like: “Yea, I am a Tamilan. So what?”. SO WHAT? Just because I’m a Tamilan and you are a Malayalee/Telugu, are you going to show off your middle finger at me and go away?
Now, what made me to bring up this ‘inter-racial’ issue anyway? Well, continue reading!
Yesterday, this blog received some incoming hits from a link which seems to be a Friendster’s bulletin board post. So, obviously I would click on it to see where it is heading to and who would have posted it. But, to my disappointment, it didn’t showed anything! Well, of course it won’t as the ’someone’ who posted that bulletin is NOT in my friends list (Only those bulletins posted by the people in our ‘friends’ list are viewable). Therefore, I have to ‘force’ myself to view that bulletin by any means and surprisingly, I succeeded! And as for the content of the bulletin, well, have a look at the screenshot image below:
Those links that he has posted are broken. Therefore, whenever someone clicked any of those links, they would be redirected to a built-in 404 error page and I have no idea to which blog post he had linked them initially. I believe it would be those few Tamil conversation posts and some of my recent articles.

The person (Shaman) who posted that impromptu bulletin is a malayalee guy, and to hide his ass, I rather prefer not to put his Friendster’s link here (Depends!). Anyway, I would love to ask him one question. Why is the need of such mindset brotha? Why is the need of this inter-racial war in between us, the INDIANS?
We are already being marginalised in this country and our dreams of becoming a “Malaysian Malaysia” have already been blurred due to some racist politicians and their racist policies, and with the existence of people like you, Shaman, we are further discriminating ourselves and becoming a segregated minority within a minority. Whether a person is a Tamil, Malayalee or a Telugu, we all are eating the same rice, praying to the same god and carrying the word INDIA in our identification cards. Isn’t that enough to foster the bond in between us? In that case, how would your ‘inter-racial discriminative effort’ is going to benefit you anyway?
From what I have observed when talking with my friends, the term “Tamilengge” have been generally accepted by other Indian-ethnics in this country and it is merely the same as “Indians in Malaysia”. For those broad-minded Telugus or Malayalees, they would understand it. When we are talking about “Tamilengge”, it doesn’t mean we are referring to those people of TAMIL ORIGIN specifically but intended to those TAMIL-SPEAKING people in Malaysia! In fact, there a lot of Telugus and Malayalees who could speak/write better Tamil than some of us do and I am yet to see some who could not understand Tamil! Even some of my Telugu friends would frequently use the word “Nambe tamilengge….” and I believe by using that word, neither he has lost his Telugu originality nor he is disgracing his own Telugu ethnic.
Instead of exaggerating and emphasizing on this “Malayalee VS Telugu VS Tamil” useless and pointless issue, please look at the bigger picture. In the end, irregardless whether your name is Balram Naidu, Tamil Pillai, Sheila Nair, Ram Menon or Venkata Rao, we all are Indians and when we are dead, our Death Certificate would have the following –> BANGSA: INDIA. Period.

And I am damn proud of it.
The truth is I am really mixed, my dad is Telugu and Tamil, my mum=Indian Tamil, Ceylonese, Malayalee.. I have many Punjabi Uncles and Aunts.. So what am I? Haha.. I often get the “what are you actually?” questions too..
But what for? So that if I am Malayalee, I will actually speak Malayalam to you? For God sake, I can’t speak any other native Indian languages except Tamil. And I believe almost all Malaysian Indians, if not speak, can at least understand Tamil.
But what I am really pissed off is “Are you a ceylonese question?” Even my history teacher has asked me that. What difference will it make? So being a ceylonese means what? And being not means what?
Please, try not ask such questions in a frank conversations. Maybe if you guys are thick friends or whatever, it is okay. Not in your first meeting.
