Malaysian Indians: Smiling VS Staring

The reason I put ‘Malaysian Indians’ in the title instead of ‘Indians’ alone is due to its coverage, as I know there would be an Indian from India hopping to my blog and commenting “Hey, we in India are not like that ok.” Fine, keep aside your country as I would be talking about mine.

Imagine you are heading to a place full of ‘other races’ in such a way that Indians are very hard to be spotted. There, you managed to spot a group of Indian teenagers sitting at the Mamak stall and they managed to sense your presence. So, what would you be thinking at that time? “Oh, Indians, weeeee!!” Saw that? You are happy! On the other half, what would those teenagers be thinking? “What the heck, an Indian? *stare*“. With regard to that, what made such disparities to made its way? I do agree that not all our dear brothers and sisters would be thinking, staring and acting in such way but don’t tell me we, the Indians are very very friendly and love to smile at one another all the time? Maybe 3 out of 10? Or 10 out of 30 would do it? To those theoretical teenagers, why you have to accept the fact that a stranger is and would always be a stranger? At least a smile would do to ensure the new-in-town person to be delighted and hence he/she would be approaching you guys for a further chit-chat. Who knows, that person might be a bank manager who is in-charge of the loan department or a well-known company director who might opt those teenagers to work in his/her company? You have just ruined it all just by giving a stare, morons!

The same thing applies to school students and I gotta say some of the freaks in schools would be the one initiating their ’staring attitude’ and spreading it amongst their friends. Take this scenario for example. A new boy, Ravi has joined SMKWTF and he happens to be a nerd. He would be day dreaming on how all the Indian boys in that school would be welcoming him and introducing themselves by giving a warm smile in the first day itself. Well boy, a dream would always be a dream! Reality check proves that around 3 to 4 Indian boys would be approaching him, and they would most probably be in the same class and/or nerds as well! That’s it! How about the rest? How about those mandes and his kaigels? If they happened to see this new boy, he is in a deep shit trouble. But our friend is so eager to befriend everyone in that school and getting a good name. By giving a warm smile to those mandes and his gangs, it literally means to stare at them. So once again, yeah, you are in a deep shit boy! Assuming if he had did that, just have a look chronologically on how a smile by a nerd student to a group of mande students would eventually turn out to be pandang lari > puas illeya > turun panureya > K*tte surunggutha > inthe school nangge pegang > pathu nadenthuke. In this case, whom to be blamed? Blame the boy for smiling at the mandes although he knew about them ‘being mandes’? Or blame those ‘mandes’ for acting like a bunch of phucked-up-uneducated-morons, which most of us would resort to?

Besides that, our aunties too, love to stare at one another! Rani wears jewelleries like shit and goes shopping. There, Roja was doing some shopping as well. Roja saw those jewelleries all over Rani’s body and stares at them. Here, there are two possibilities: I wish I had those… or Inthe munjiku inthe mathiri nageiya.. and *cursing*. Rani noticed that Roja was staring at her jewelleries and she would be thinking that Roja was actually admiring the beauty of her jewelleries. In the end, would there be a genuine smile-smile situation? I don’t think so!

No matter how hard we crap on SMILE, SMILE and SMILE, the perception of why one smiles to another could never be changed!

Example scenarios:

A teenage girl smiling at an unknown boy
- A desperate bitch?

A teenage boy smiling at an unknown girl
- Sereppu pinjiro!

An aunty smiling at an unknown uncle
- Did she really smiled at me? Why she wanted to do that?

An uncle smiling at an unknown aunty
- *complains to her husband*

A nerd boy smiling at an unknown Bangsar clubbing chick
- *Hey Prisha, that jerk is smiling at me and is expecting me to do the same. Nambe level enna avonude level enna*

A Bangsar clubbing chick smiling at an unknown nerd boy
- Well, it won’t happen. Don’t worry.

A nerd boy smiling at a mande’s girlfriend in school
That nerd boy should be expecting a phone call from a “Private Number” a few hours later and again, he shall be expecting around ‘20 guests’ waiting for him outside the school.

A mande’s girlfriend smiling at a nerd boy in school
*Nambelekku yenpa inthe vambu!*

You see, stare pun salah, smile pun salah! Any solution for this my dear readers?

Each time I write an article, I have to keep on writing this shit. This article is no way generalised in any manner and the examples mentioned were not representing all the Indian community here in Malaysia but only a small portion of them. And no, I’m not being racist, sexist, or moron and I do mind my own business apart from writing this article.

nice post and kinda true… i smile to everyone in town except those scary looking fellas… sometimes my smile do create probs for myself coz they misinterpret it but mostly the other party will smile back to me and its kinda an achievement for me. Smile is the biggest gift for us… without it we are not in the category of homo-sapiens and a smile should blossom without a thought… Smile always and have a relaxed n happy life

Yeah..indeed agreed..happened to me when I entered the university..at the time..the 1st year Indians gang up among them..while I still chill with my malay friend cum roommate..so, whenever I saw them I smile at them..of cos la..kinda hard to see them..and don’t have the chance to meet them..

In the end, I got to know with another with another bunch friends (the loners) and these Indian guys always rolling everywhere together-gether..so this resembles Ravi as me and the other guys is the Mandes..

Let say a small meeting in their room, while chilling they burst out la..They don’t like the way I smile and I talk and even walk (reason the way I walk is like walk on the air)..WTF..They asked why I smiled like tat..and asked to change my way of communicate..and then started a cold war among me and them..aishhh…
