Yet another racial slur? Pariah!

Pariah

For those who does not know the meaning of ‘pariah’, here it is:

The word pariah, which can be used for anyone who is a social outcast, independent of social position, recalls a much more rigid social system, which made only certain people pariahs. The caste system of India placed pariahs, also known as Untouchables, very low in society. The word pariah, which we have extended in meaning, came into English from Tamil paaiyar, the plural of paaiyan, the caste name, which literally means “(hereditary) drummer” and comes from the word paai, the name of a drum used at certain festivals. The word is first recorded in English in 1613. Its use in English and its extension in meaning probably owe much to the long period of British rule in India.

So, by addressing us, the Malaysian Indians as ‘pariahs’, he is saying that WE ALL ARE LOW CLASS, REJECTED FROM THE SOCIETY as well as UNWANTED. Previously we had the phucktard teacher who uttered her racial slurs towards some Indian students, then some bunch of Malayalees talking cock in a discussion forum and now, a lawyer uttering the same racial slur? Yenda nainggela, yenggele parke kevelema irukka??

I really wish I could type something very long to express my anger and wrath towards this lawyer but on the other half, a “picture speaks a thousand words”!

Hence, here’s my pictorial reply:

Pariah

      c) The politician who asked to kill an Indian rather a snake
      d) Whatever happened to Shah Kirit??
      e) And the Bar Council protest against the two Indian ladies..

And all these in the last 3 months only.

And really, no ISA used against these people? How come? Wasn’t racial harmony disrupted? Bah, one law for them, one law for us.

    12. Avatar P. Prasad August 22nd, 2008 at 7:08 pm

The term ‘pariah’ is a derogatory term, but is not specific to any race, though its origins are Indian. Shafee directed the insult against Raja Petra specifically, not the Malaysian Indian community.

VinodX> I am a Malaysian Indian working and living overseas

rascalz> “keling” and “pariah” have different meanings. “Pariah” is a general insult that can be directed regardless of race. “Keling” is a derogatory term directed at Indians. You cannot compare them! Shafee directed a general insult at RPK - NOT at the Malaysian-Indian community.

    17. Avatar Durai August 23rd, 2008 at 8:57 pm

@P.Prasad - I’m a Malaysian Indian working and living in London, drink coffee in Italy, I travel all over Europe as a hobby. I own a private jet with 15 security guards all the time with me . I also have 3 helicopters, 4 ships, eleh jet, pattte rolls royce. Epedi, joke ah irukah.

Your ‘overseas story lacks credibility’. Anyone on the net can even claim to be Bill Gates.

Anyway, that’s not the story. Coming back to Malaysia-

In case you don’t know, over here in ‘Malaysia’ , no other ethnics is called Pariah other than Indians. Do you go around Malays or Chinese and say Pariah ? Nah.

They have been only calling Indians like that. In case you’re naive about this, come back to Malaysia, if you’re really overseas.

    18. Avatar P. Prasad August 23rd, 2008 at 9:18 pm

Durai> Are you saying that when Shafee calls RPK a ‘pariah’, he’s actually talking about Malaysian Indians?
Where on earth is the reasoning behind that conclusion?
Shafee is talking about RPK- he is insulting RPK. It makes the Indian community look very silly when we go to the extent of seeing ourselves as the victim of comments not directed at us!

“Your ‘overseas story lacks credibility’. Anyone on the net can even claim to be Bill Gates.”.
I mentioned I lived and worked overseas because someone asked me who I was. Why the angry response Durai?

    19. Avatar Makkez August 23rd, 2008 at 11:49 pm

@P.Prasad - It might be my mistake for not going through the full article at MalaysiaKini as I do not have an account there so that is why I made an image out of the excerpt available in that site.

Anyhow, as for the term pariah, for us, the impact would be the same as ‘keling’ (Just like how ‘rascalz’ had pointed out).

      - Perangai engkau macam keling
      - Perangai engkau macam pariah

Maybe the place where you once lived in might not take the term ‘pariah’ as serious as ‘keling’, which gives an impact to those Indians but at the same time, you could not deny the fact that ‘pariah’ is somehow related to Indians when the term is uttered here in Malaysia.

    20. Avatar tamilian August 24th, 2008 at 1:02 am

using the term pariah to insult is insulting to Indians who are of pariah caste - period. Long ago the term was used by indians to point out that the behaviour was like someone from the pariah caste- it was always degradingly. Nowadays there are many highly educated pariah caste people and even if they were uneducated there is no basis to differentiate this caste in an insulting manner from any other indian group. All Indians in particular should not use this word at all even though it is accepted in the English language to mean an outcast. Respect all our brothers and sisters!

Why dont the ppl think b4 they talk

    22. Avatar the truth August 24th, 2008 at 5:31 pm

I somehow agree with what Prasad had to say, but rascalz also has a point. The villain in this whole issue isnt RPK, it isnt that Mamak lawyer(ok, maybe 50%) but TV3. YES, TV3.

I watched the 8pm news on TV3, and tht was when they showed his press conference, a pre-recorded video, which meant that TV3 had plenty of time to do some censorship on the vulgar languages before openly broadcasting it to the nation’s 2 million plus Indian viewers. And guess what, they didnt.

So, i think TV3 should have been sued instead, for showing such racist sentiments in their daily news which of course TV3 knew would be watched by millions of Malaysians. This was clearly intentional(as we know this is all too common in this country).

When a controversial movie gets worldwide criticism, the director/producer usually lands in hot water, and not its actors and actresses. This is consistent with the issue now.

And the stories i hear about pariah is just like what “tamilian” said earlier. Overall….. if im not mistaken here….. Those words represent people from india right? the only thing now is…
