HINDRAF bombarded PM’s open house – Should them or should not?

HINDRAF

HINDRAF

HINDRAF

A few hundreds (or even thousands) HINDRAF supporters flocked to attend the PM’s open house in PWTC yesterday. The number vary from one source to another therefore I could not state any exact figure here but based on the news in theStar online, the figure was around 160. Anyway, who cares about the number! It’s the quality of the purpose that matters and not the quantity.

Here are some short excerpts on what actually happened yesterday:

“When I shook his (PM) hand, I asked him when he would release the detainees and when my husband would be allowed to return home,” Shanti (wife of Waytha) told reporters.”

“Shanti was accompanied by her six-year-old daughter and about 70 supporters who were allowed into the dining hall.”

“However, some 200-odd supporters were not allowed in. Shanti said that, as a protest, none of the Hindraf supporters ate at the open house.”

“We have his open invitation to the event, so we don’t understand why the officials were trying to block us,” he said.”

“Abdullah had earlier confirmed that the Hindraf supporters had first been stopped at the door but were then allowed in.”

As expected, critics would always follow wherever we go. Several ministers have condemned the act of those HINDRAF supporters by saying that it is not the “right time” and “right place” to hand in a memorandum, some saying that “Hindraf members should have known their limits and not turn up at an open house “like this” and another minister even said that “such behaviour would reflect poorly on Malaysia’s image to tourists.”

Although I may not like their condemnation against HINDRAF supporters, but candidly speaking, what they said is just based on a normal person’s point-of-view and is coherent pertaining to the situation. Based on this, there would be a few judgments to ponder about:

1) Other races
- Forget about the malays as we all know, HINDRAF is definitely a nuisance to them, although some PKR members would claim that “they are with HINDRAF”. As for the chinese, although some of them might uphold the objective of HINDRAF, nevertheless they will still slam those HINDRAF supporters for causing a ‘stir’ during an Open House, a day in which all the races gather together and mingle without any barriers.

2) Other Indians
- “Other Indians” might refer to a big portion of MIC supporters who attended the open house for the sake of fulfilling their stomach. These people would definitely be with HINDRAF deep in their heart but when it comes to reality, these people would act as if “Ohh, these HINDRAF people… *sigh*..”. Just imagine a situation where as an UMNO guy whispering to an MIC guy on how “annoying the HINDRAF supporters are” during that open house. You can’t envisage the Indian guy to start a war of words and expect the UMNO guy to keep his mouth shut. In this case, the Indian guy would have no choice but to nod at him and give a sour answer: “Yeah, what to do…..”. There is no point blaming him as what matters for him is his dignity and his rapport with his ‘colleagues’, and not the core objective of HINDRAF.

If you are an attendee at the open house, and you are witnessing hundreds of people clad in those orange “Makkal Sakthi” T-shirts thronging that place, and at the same time, every other races started to stare at you (since you are an Indian as well), what would be running in your mind during that time? Would you be thinking that “Oh my god, I feel ashamed because of these HINDRAF people…” or you would be supercharged and thinking “Yeah people, go on, go on, my HINDRAF fellows! I don’t give a damn about the others!”.

Dignity and Rapport VS HINDRAF’s objective and Freedom of HINDRAF 5ive

What matters for you the most?

Valge Makkal Sakthi!

Note: I am just being ‘over the fence’ and thinking neutrally. Nonetheless, I would always be with HINDRAF. Photos adopted from townguy.

It is sad to hear that some of them were not allowed in. After all, which fundamentals of the Open House system the authorities failed to understand? Barring people to enter the event would have flabbergasted the tourists. If the PM was all for the Bangsa Malaysia, he would have invited them all and explained to them the situation on the day full of forgiveness. My support also goes all the way for the cause by the HINDRAF. Release all the ISA Detainees!

If I was there sitting along with other people, as soon as I see Hindraf members walking in I would get up and clap and cheer!! :D

Bernard Khoo (Zorro) and Haris Ibrahim (The People’s Parliment) gave an excellent first-person account on the open house. It also seems some of the Hindraf supporters and RPK supporters were not allowed in initially because of their T-shirts. Zorro and Haris even challenged going in without the T-shirts. lol!

      i agree with sri..

bombarding the open house like that will only spoil our name and dignity.. it will just make things worst for us.. we shouldn’t do the same mistake as what they have done.. we need to show them that we are unlike them.. need to show them that we are better in respecting other races and their religion..

need to show them that we are only being righteous and reasonable.. our aim is not to create havoc! this is our beautiful country after all..

Our goal is to get back our rights thats all.. our goal is not to take the country over for ourselves… we shouldn’t pose ourselves as a threat with such intention!

Yes we need to bug them and make them understand our rights.. but disturbing them in such occassions will only make them to look at us as a threat… that is not very helpful..

      @ Subash Rao

you have obviously been influenced by wht you’ve read in the papers and heard in the news.

HINDRAF didnt just ‘bombard’ the open house, in fact, they mentioned to the reps of the PM tht they were going to come in numbers way before the event, and if im not mistaken they were even given the nod to be present there.

If they were not welcomed as how the LIAR newspapers and TV news reported, why didnt the police stop them outside? Its not like 100 Indians have the power to suddenly teleport inside a building. The PDRM obviously allowed thm in, and thn wht seemed liked a rehearsed move, they started giving problems to the HINDRAF supporters, such as blocking thm from even shaking hands with the PM and even attempted to tear a CARD WRITTEN BY A 6 YEAR OLD!

Whats irks me the most is that the PM himself probably gave permission for them to attend the open house, so it seems like it was a planned drama, knowing the press would be present, the Ministers knew they would be able to put the HINDRAF supporters in a tight situation this time.

Im sorry if you and others alike feel tht they’ve tainted the image of the Indian community, but i beg to differ. It is NOT easy to stand the stares of all the other visitors tht day, but it was neccessary, and my heroes didnt fail me.

If you want equal rights, you must first aid the release of the only 5 people at present time whom can earn it for you.

    12. Avatar subash rao October 4th, 2008 at 11:17 pm

no brother.. i’m not influenced by any newspaper or media…

I don’t have to feel the way i felt just because of some media influence..

when i first heard about the news, i thought to myself.. “guys this is not the right approach.. you are disturbing their religious occasion.. you’ll be only seen as annoyance..” tats what i thought..

it doesn’t matter if permission was given or not.. whether a drama has been plotted out or not… that comes second.. the first thing to be concerned is,

“why do we have to make the mistake where we give them a space so that they can manipulate and blame us?”

We should think ahead.. not just be hasty.. they can use any small mistakes and make it a big issue.. so why do we let that happen?.. why do we give them the ‘RIGHT’ to blame us??

Yes we should get the 5 heroes released.. but how sure are you this is the correct way?

We should act in a more smarter and professional way… let INDIANS be seen as an educated, smart, loving and fierce community.. not as hasty, annoying, uneducated and fierce community…

my sentences might won’t tell exactly what my point is as i’m in a rush to leave office now… typing hastily :p

but thats all my concern.. cheers~

      @ Subash Rao

“why do we have to make the mistake where we give them a space so that they can manipulate and blame us?”

bro, whts da mistake? Tht was da only time the PM had for his ppl, HINDRAF had tried to meet him on so many occasions…parliament house, PM’s office, etc….but all to no avail. They were correct to meet him during a time when he basically ‘invited’ all Malaysians to join him and his ministers for the open house. HINDRAF joined, a 6 yo girl wanted to hand in a hand made card, the rest just wanted to wish him well. Whats wrong with tht?

“Yes we should get the 5 heroes released.. but how sure are you this is the correct way? ”

Gathering in numbers to protest is an internationally accepted freedom movement activity. What did HINDRAF do wrong pls tell me? furthermore ah, it wasnt even a protest. They went to wish the PM, and wanted to leave, they didnt even eat.

This isn’t the ultimate way to release the HINDRAF 5, but it certainly is an effort. The problem with this country is tht once an issue comes up, within days it will die off, regardless wether the issue is settled or not. HINDRAF are just showing every1 tht they are still there and the struggle is still ON.

If you think this isn’t the correct way, what is then? Its easy to just sit at home and talk, but tell me honestly, WOULD YOU DARE ATTEND A HINDRAF GATHERING/CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL/ PROTEST? I bet not….i think you fall into tht category of “wait-and-see”Indians. BUT THE MOMENT HINDRAF WINS THE BATTLE YOU GUYS WILL BE THE FIRST TO RUSH AND ENJOY ALL THE BENEFITS. typical.

Its ok, i dont blame you, for tht matter a lot of Indians.Even my Indian friends are unaware of exactly wht HINDRAF are fighting for. They thing its just a matter of “oh we’ve had enough” thingi. But i guarantee you it isnt.

Anyway bro Subash, have faith, thts whts most important. The 5 will have to be released sooner or later, because not only are malaysians protetsing, but even foreign countries are poking their noses in as well. All im dissapointed is as to why India hasn’t put their foot down on this matter. I’m not too good at all these ‘diplomatic relations’ shit all so the reason seems unclear to me. But wht Mr Karunaneethi did to the bloody samy v while he was in tamil nadu was superbla…

      ps:working so late?

2 months plus more and it will be exactly one year, 5 men had been seperated from their wives and children in such an unjust manner by the tyrants. nothing, i mean NOTHING makes me more angry about the whole matter.

    15. Avatar sactyr @ naga October 5th, 2008 at 3:08 pm

Erm.. Subash Rao, it was a Open House wasn’t it? So whats bothering you and what is making you think that the Hindraf supporters were unwanted guests at an Open House?

The only thing which was different between those Hindraf supporters and the other guests were that Hindraf people were all wearing the same orange T-shirt, plus these guys wanted to meet and speak to the PM. Can’t the public speak to the PM at an Open Day?

So all in all, we can’t talk to the PM AND wear orange T-shirts at an Open Day. We can’t protest on the streets. We can’t go to the PM’s office to see him. We can’t deliver roses to PM. We can’t go to the British embassy to complain. We can’t meet the King. And we can’t do anything else, just because “we are giving them room to blame us”?

So much for being a Malaysian eh?

      @ subhas rao,
listen up, it was a OPEN HOUSE and they announced that they were coming well in advance so how could that be a offensive to the malays?? Every one has the right to protest, that is a fundamental human right. And they protested peacefully so how can that be disturbing to the malays??

You know what is very offensive: arresting 5 men (that have organised peacefull protests) who are the leaders of HINDRAF and and separating them from their families, destroying hindu temples that are over 100 years old while claiming that those mandirs are illegally build, making a muslim out of a dead HINDU man and refusing HIS WIDOW the right to cremate his body, banning the HINDRAF: a organisation that is protesting peacefully against the injustices being perpretated against the indian and hindu minority, discriminating the indian minority (including the hindus) etc etc etc etc

So subhas rao STOP behaving like a SELL-OUT and a TRAITOR

    21. Avatar Rama October 17th, 2008 at 1:41 am

      By the way subhas rao,
HINDRAF and the indians should not care about how others view their actions because if they are opposed to HINDRAF and the Indians they will ALWAYS find a reason to blame the indians. Remeber that if you want to beat up a dog you will always find something to beat him.

So STOP caring about what others think of you because that’s just so pathetic. To hell with what others might think of the indians those who oppose the indians or HINDRAF can go fuck themselfs, their mothers, and their pigs/dogs.
