Mother-in-law –> Major cause of divorce in Indian community?

Most of time, Tamil mega serials would never fail to show a scene where the mother-in-law would be trying her level best to either chase away her own daughter-in-law or in some cases, killing her via the most common way which is to mix her drink with some poison. On the other hand, there would even be a scene showing the daughter-in-law trying her level best to chase away her mother-in-law via any plausible means from the house where they are living together so that she could live ‘happily’ with her husband.
Well, all the above were fictional as we all may know. Today, it seems that a study conducted in Malaysia has revealed that the major cause of divorce in Indian community is because of one’s mother-in-law. Yes, you heard that right. One’s mother-in-law could even mean the mother-in-law of a husband and the fight among them as a part of the reason for divorce but that is very unlikely to occur. Seriously, I mean that.
KUALA LUMPUR: Every married person knows it, but a local study has confirmed it – mothers-in-law are the chief cause of divorces, especially in the Indian community.
Data in the Malaysia Community and Family Study 2004 by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) revealed that “meddlesome in-laws” is the number one reason why Indian couples get divorced.

Perhaps if Tamil serials start to emphasize more on the positive bonding of mother-in-laws with their daughter-in-laws, I personally believe that it could at least yield a favorable outcome instead of giving ideas through the screen on how to kill each other via various ways. Sigh.

astro should stop airing tamil serials bro..
sickening tamil serials!!
rather than rallying for indians rights… we should rally to fix our own damn probs…. for a start we could rally against astro on airing this stupid serials.. ban this serials… and ask them to air better shows for our money… at least if the serials are worth it ok la.. like heroes or csi .. but this this tamil serials are very very low cost production… 1 house.. 3 actors.. namely 1 gal.. her mother in law and her stupid husband… hmmm.. this would go on for 300 episodes…..
sometimes…its juz nt serial alone de cause 4 divorce…..there is still mother in law and daughter in law problem bcoz lack of understanding ang possesiveness over husband by wife n sons by mother in laws……..
Maybe we seriously have to boycott Sun Tv’s Tamil Serials…It’s really sick where every drama is almost same just the titles is different..Haaaarggghhh can’t tolerate anymore should take an immediate action to STOP all Tamil drama.
@maya - In that case, ASTRO would definitely lose a lot of its Indian customers.
@Eva - Haha.. =D
@mrsavaadi - Well, if there are serials such as Prison Break or Heroes, it would definitely be a blast but too bad bro, it seems that most of our aunties wouldn’t be interested in those kind of serials.
@tamilpen88 - Of course, in fact, Tamil serials aren’t a direct cause for divorce in our community. It is just a catalyst I would say as they are pouring out ideas on how to go against each other. =)
@Steve - Boycott SunTV serials? Too late bro as our aunties can’t live without them.
They’re only relax time is when they was these terribly boring serials.
But, being in a modern time, I’m guessing this is a very small part of divorces.
Women nowadays aren’t scared or don’t feel intimidated by their mother-in-laws. Mother-in-laws now days? well.. i guess they change when they become one. But these are just forces of nature, regardless of race.
well said amy…101% agreed!!!!! i personally feel tht nowadays, woman to be more specific are coming outta the famous ol “wateva” shell and thus not feeling intimidated at all with their MIL…bt, well, who knws wat happens in the future rite? everyone changes for the best…or not???
MIL vs. DIL always will be there..
cheers
Serial playing a part in daily life?
If indeed it is, then we’re in serious trouble. Looking at how mamee’s and aunties takes this dramas as part of their life, I wouldn’t wonder if turn to be problem maker in their own family.
Better kaw-tim your Mamiyar makkez…hehehehe
Serial..serial aah mathum pakenum..SERIOUS aah parke kudathu.. partakka nambe SERIOUS aiduvom.
Not only Indian Community, we as a Malaysian Minority also have the same problem. Why MIL is so hard on DIL, and DH is very quiet on this.. we must do something, but how..
anyway, to heal myself, I write a diary and stuff..
http://beautyandtheloser.blogspot.com/ its all about the damm MIL
i strongly agree, the serials should be banned.my in laws watch the all the serials aired in astro from morning till nite sometimes my husband watches with them wen he’s at home. my MIL and SIL treat me badly just like in the serials, till i have to move out.but still they control my husband until we are separated now.even my husband uses the dialogue the stars use in the serials, maybe all of them need to go out to the real world more often.
serials can go to the extend of destroying a marriage.
